A 1 to 3 percent dosage of MP2050 decides how a cement-based tile adhesive behaves at the bond line.
MP2050 is a multipurpose VAE powder with a minimum film forming temperature of +3 °C. Its job in a C1 or C2 adhesive is simple to state and hard to shortcut: form a continuous polymer film across the interface between mortar and tile.
A redispersible powder only works after it has redispersed in the mixing water and dried again inside the mortar. MP2050 redisperses quickly, so the polymer is available early in the mixing cycle instead of sitting in lumps at the bottom of the mixer.
Once the mortar loses water, the polymer particles coalesce into a film that bridges the cement hydrates and the substrate. At +3 °C that film still forms, which is why the grade is used on sites that apply adhesive outside the warmest months.
Most C1 formulations carry 1 to 2 percent polymer on dry mortar weight and most C2 formulations 2 to 3 percent. Above that band the tensile adhesion gains flatten out while the cost per tonne keeps climbing, so the useful question is where the curve bends for your filler and cement level.
EN 12004 asks C1 adhesives for at least 0.5 N/mm2 tensile adhesion and C2 adhesives for at least 1.0 N/mm2, tested dry, wet and after heat ageing. Polymer dosage is the lever that moves those numbers, but water demand and curing conditions decide whether the dosage can express itself.
On an absorbent substrate such as a cement render or a gypsum board, the mortar loses water fast. The polymer film forms early, which helps early strength, but the same suction can starve the interface if the mortar was mixed too stiff.
On a dense substrate such as a cured screed or an existing tile, no water leaves through the tile. The adhesive dries from the joint side only, so open time and coverage matter more than dosage. Priming changes the equation again, because a primed surface holds water at the interface instead of pulling it away.
The grade this note is about, and two that sit next to it in the range.
Send the mortar system, the grade you are considering and the volume you plan for. The reply comes back with a dosage recommendation and a quotation.
