One hard binder across two chemistries simplifies silo and inventory planning, provided both systems still meet their own tests.
MP2701 is a VAE powder with a minimum film forming temperature of 3 °C, positioned as a single grade for cement and gypsum systems. The claim is worth testing rather than assuming.
Cement sets by hydration in a strongly alkaline pore solution. Gypsum sets by crystallisation in a near-neutral solution. A polymer that works in both has to tolerate both environments.
MP2701 is formulated to do that, with a hard film that gives cohesion in a cement matrix and a mechanical key on paper and board in a gypsum compound.
Cement-based applications usually sit at 1 to 3 percent, gypsum joint fillers at 2 to 4 percent. The gypsum system needs more because the matrix carries less strength of its own.
Because the grade is hard, the dosage can be adjusted for adhesion without softening the mortar, which keeps sandability and trowel feel consistent between products.
A single grade cannot be the best answer everywhere. In a highly flexible ETICS base coat, a softer powder will outperform it.
The value of MP2701 is inventory simplification across a range of moderate applications, not replacing specialised grades at the extremes.
The grade this note is about, and two that sit next to it in the range.
Send the mortar system, the grade you are considering and the volume you plan for. The reply comes back with a dosage recommendation and a quotation.
