Hydrophobic grades carry a different cost structure, and understanding it makes annual purchasing simpler.
HD2000 is bought by grout and waterproofing producers whose volumes are smaller than the adhesive market but whose specifications are stricter.
The hydrophobic function comes from the polymer, so the powder costs more to make than a standard grade of the same polymer content. Comparing on price per kilo alone therefore misses the point.
Compare on cost per finished tonne at equal performance. A hydrophobic grade often allows a lower dosage than a standard grade plus a separate water repellent.
Volumes are usually smaller, so packing format matters more. A pallet of 25 kg sacks is the common unit; big bags are worth negotiating once annual volume justifies them.
Small volumes also mean less buffer against a supply interruption. Keep a safety stock sized to your longest production run plus transit.
Waterproofing and grout demand follows renovation seasons and moves with the weather. Wet-season markets buy differently from cold-climate markets.
Plan the annual volume in two blocks rather than twelve small orders, and let the supplier hold the stock position if storage is tight at your plant.
The grade this note is about, and two that sit next to it in the range.
Send the mortar system, the grade you are considering and the volume you plan for. The reply comes back with a dosage recommendation and a quotation.
