60W Dosing at MFFT 12C

60W is the rigid end of the ELOTEX range. Its film forms at 12 °C, which is high for a redispersible powder and explains both what it does well and where it needs care.

The 12 °C Film

A high film forming temperature means the polymer needs more energy before the particles coalesce. In practice the film is harder and more abrasion resistant, and the mortar tolerates less water and less cold.

Below roughly 10 °C the film may not form completely. The mortar can still harden because the cement hydrates, but the polymer contribution to adhesion and abrasion resistance drops away quietly.

Dosage in Putty

Skim coats and wall putty usually carry 1.5 to 3 percent of 60W. C1 tile adhesives sit lower, often 1 to 2 percent, because the cement carries most of the strength and the polymer only has to secure the bond at the interface.

Because the film is hard, adding more powder improves abrasion resistance without turning the mortar soft. That is the opposite of what happens with a flexible grade, and it is why 60W is dosed by performance target rather than by feel.

Curing Conditions

Warm, dry conditions suit 60W. The film forms within hours and the surface can be sanded or overcoated sooner than with a flexible grade.

Cold, humid conditions do not. On a winter site the same recipe can lose surface cohesion, and the usual fix is a blend with a lower film forming temperature rather than more of the rigid powder.
